The Clubhouse Renovation – Granta Park

Thackrays was appointed to transform an underutilised building by Park landlord BioMed Realty at Granta Park into a vibrant, multi-purpose facility that would become a valuable amenity for businesses, visitors and the wider Park community.

Located in the heart of the Park, the refurbishment was designed to support the surrounding sports facilities while providing a welcoming social space. The completed Clubhouse now features a modern bistro and bar, improved changing and shower facilities, including an accessible shower and WC, and flexible spaces that serve both everyday users and as an additional offer of the Park’s existing restaurant during busy periods.

Working closely with the client, our team carefully balanced modern functionality with the character of the original building, creating a welcoming, high end finish destination that complements the wider Granta Park environment.

Scope of Works

Complete refurbishment of the existing Clubhouse, formerly know at The Pavilion
Internal reconfiguration to create a large open-plan space
Removal of the central dividing wall
Creation of a new bistro and bar
Refurbishment of changing rooms and shower facilities
Improvements to W/C and welfare areas
Restoration and retention of original timber beams and architectural features
Installation of bespoke interior finishes
Coordination and installation of a gifted Cambridge rowing boat as a unique feature within the space
Full project management from refurbishment through to completion

The Result

The refurbishment has transformed a previously unused building into a vibrant hub at the centre of Granta Park. The new Clubhouse provides a welcoming space for employees, visitors and sports teams, supporting the Park’s growing community while enhancing the overall visitor experience.

One of the key elements of the project was opening up the internal layout by removing the central wall, creating a bright and flexible space while carefully preserving the building’s original character, including its exposed timber beams. The installation of a full-sized rowing boat, generously gifted by the Cambridge rowing community, provides a striking focal point that celebrates the local sporting heritage.

Having successfully delivered numerous projects across Granta Park, this refurbishment further demonstrates the trusted, long-standing relationship between Thackrays and the client.

The project was successfully completed on time and within budget, delivering a modern, high-quality facility that will serve the Park for many years to come.
